Worlds apart: Dee Dee and Carlos

Dee Dee lavished him with soft kisses, stroking his hair as she did so.

Closing his eyea he releshed the kisses,"let me make you dinner."

Dee Dee smiled, "No, I can cook. You just got home."

"Ok, I'd like that," he stood and offered her his hand.

Dee Dee ran to the grocery to get a few things to make dinner; using her rationing coupons to get ingredients for spaghetti. In no time, she had dinner on the table.

They ate and talked about everything a letter could not detail; her writing, his life before the war, their goals and aspirations. Dee Dee fell more in love with him as they talked. After dinner, she put away the leftovers and cleaned up, not letting Jace help. She wanted him to relax for a change.

He sat in the living room waiting for her. The night had been amazing. It was like the war never happened. HE smiled as he sipped his coffee.

Dee Dee came in with her cup of tea and sat down in the chair next to his by the fireplace. She smiled softly as she drank her tea and admired her engagement ring. She couldn't believe how much her life had changed since his return.

He watched her staring at the ring, "It was my mother's."

Dee Dee smiled, "It's beautiful, Jace."

Finally, he woke. He was stiff and sore, but he was healing. He rolled over and grabbed the cane Bobby had left for him and limped his way to the bathroom.

He thought, it was going to be terrible living here without here waiting for their wedding day, but it would be worth it. Softly he smiled as he thought of the day.

Dee Dee smiled gently, "So...when should we do this?"

"Whenever you want," he held her hand.

Two months later: October

Dee Dee fidgeted nervously as her mother and best friend, Corrine Winston, helped her into her dress and veil at the church two blocks away from what would be her new home. It was a warm autumn day; the air smelled of fall, the sun bright against the turning leaves making the trees appear on fire with amber, gold, and crimson flames. The day was perfect.

Her father, Alexander Tregar, had to slow her pace down as the walked down the aisle. Dee Dee wanted so badly to be married now. She smiled at Jace through her veil, happy that their day had finally come. She had resigned at the Tiffany's counter in preparation of being a full time wife.

The day was beautiful, just like Dee Dee. Jace stood at the altar watching his bride all but run towards him. If you had asked him a few months ago if he'd be here he would have laughed. Now that the day was upon him he found himself wondering if he had actually died and gone to heaven. When Dee Dee smiled at him he smiled in return.

The ceremony was simple and quick. They took their photos outside the church afterward and had a small reception at their home. Her father had brought her things over that morning before the wedding.

After their friends and family left, Dee Dee went around and collected the stray cups and plates. She smiled softly to herself as she thought back through the day.

Helping with the clean up Jace looked at the boxes her father had dropped off. The thought of what lay in them and what it meant made him smile wide. This home was finally his and not just a shell.

Dee Dee smiled at her husband, cuddling against him as she looked at the boxes as well. "I can tackle them in the morning, if that's okay."

He nodded. Gently, he picked her up and kissed her lips. He was sp grateful for her being here. A tear slid down his cheek.

Dee Dee kissed him back gently before kissing the tear away, "I'm your wife."

He kissed her hard,"Say it again."

Dee Dee blushed, kissing him again, "I'm your wife. Mrs. Jace Ortiz."

Carrying her back to their bedroom, he kissed her again and again. This was overdue.

Dee Dee kissed him back, resting her small hands on his chest. She unbuttoned his uniform jacket that he wore for their wedding.

He fought hesitation. Though he hadn't been wounded enough to be sent home he still had many scars. If he couldn't share them with her, though, where would they be.
