AU Backdarft corrie

She punched the.old man so hard in the chest that she hurt herself, "Jesus, Morrow, you OPEN with that!"
She cradled the hand, pulled her keys off the hook, and looked back at Piney.
"Go on, kid. I'll hold down the fort."

Morrow grimaced, "I'll follow you, okay? They said they are going to keep him overnight for observation."

She raced to the hospital completely disregarding stoplights. Once she was there she found his room and pushed passed the nurses who knew her well.
He was laying in the bed, somehow he looked like a child. His arm was casted and there was a pretty raw looking burn above his right eyebrow, below his left ear and on his right cheek. She rushed to him.
"Oh, I don't like being on this side of things!" Tears slid down her cheek as she caressed.him with her bruised hand.

Opie smiled softly, "Oh baby...I'm okay...Doc said it could have been a lot worse."

She frowned, "I know. Still it looks bad to me. I'm used to you being invincible."
Leaning in she kissed his forehead.

Opie kissed her wedding ring gently, "I'm sorry for the scare."

Because of Bea she'd been running high emotions. Seeing himthis way cracked her facade and she started bawling as she climbed into the bed beside him. She steoked his hair be sure not to touch the burns.

Opie held her close, shushing her, "Hey, easy now...I'm fine. Don't get yourself worked up."

She stopped some and held his good hand, "You're going to have some nasty scars."
Remembering her sister telling her about the nightmare Juice had about th little girl.who fell through the.floor her brow furrowed.
"How's Juice?"

Opie frowned, "He is pretty shaken up. Dee picked him up from the station."

She sighed, "I'll stop.over on my way home later. Check on him."
She kissed the tip of his nose.
"I can still smell the fire on you."

Opie sighed, "I was scared that I wouldn't get out of there alive."

Tears slid down her cheek again, "But you did. You always come home to me."

Opie nodded, "I always will too...I swear."

She snuggled into him,"If you didn't....."
The thought just couldn't cross her lips.

Opie shook his head, "No more what ifs, okay?"

She nodded, "I'm not going to be able to sleep without you tonight."

Opie frowned, "You need to rest, okay? Dee said she'll stop in and check on you all tonight to...help out and stuff."

"I'll try, I promise."
she.played with his hair.

Opie relaxed under her touch, "How bad are the burns?"

She looked at the raw, blostered skin.
"Small, but bad."

He frowned, "Ugly?"

Hurriedly, she kissed a spot near each of the burns, "Is my scar ugly? Nothing about you will ever be ugly. They won't be big scars and they are badges of honor. You save lives, if all people see are the scars from that, then they are the ones who are ugly."

She held him tighter.

Opie smiled, kissing her lips, "That right there is why I love you."

She blushed, "It's true though," she kissed him back, "You're my hero. Always will be."


A nurse came into the room tsking at them.
