AU Backdarft corrie

Through gritted teeth, she spoke, "What happened, don't you do this to me. What the hell happened?"

Opie sighed, taking her hand in his, "It's Dee. She has been admitted here. Juice found her at the house this afternoon unresponsive...the doctors are examining her now."

Instinctively, she tried to get out of the bed causing her to yell out in pain.

"No, no, no. NO Damn it!!"

Opie pulled her into his arms, shushing her gently, "She's going to be okay, Cor. The best specialists are with her now...I made sure of it."

Again she was thankful for her husband. Just his touch on her raw nerves hurt, but she didn't dare to tell him. She was absolutely devastated.
"My fault.....this is my fault."

Opie shook his head, "No...the doctors said it was her heart...it was bound to happen."

Her eyes cut, "It was my fault, Opie. She traded her life for mine and I let her. I am a fucking horrible person."

Opie shook his head, "It was a blessing in disguise. They found the problem before it was too late."

She turned away from him and buried her face in the pillow. She sobbed uncontrollably, which caused her a great deal of pain. It was her fault and she knew it. If something happened to Dee, she would never be able to live with herself.

A few hours later, Opie came back in the room, smiling, "She's okay...she's going to be okay."

A few days later they released Corrie. the pain was still pretty unbearable, but she was relieved to be home. She'd gained five pounds in the last week. She'd forgotten how good food tasted, though she still was having issues. She laid in the bed upstairs, just waking from a nap, painfully aware her pain meds were wearing off.

Opie came to bring her meds up with a glass of water, "Hey...doing okay?"

Gratefully, she took the meds.

"Yea, much better now," she smiled at him.

She stood and made her way to the bathroom for a shower.

Opie followed, "Mind if I join you?"

"Of course not," she blushed as she stepped into the water.

She was still far too skinny for her own tastes, but she wouldn't ever tell him no. He'd done so much for her.

Opie got inside with her, kissing her shoulder, "It's nice to have you home, baby."

She sighed, feeling pleasantly dizzy from his touch. Turning to face him, she placed her hands on his chest. She reached up on her tip toes to kiss his collar bone.

"This is the most normal we've been in our entire marriage," he voice was tinged with sadness.

Opie tipped her chin back and smiled at her, "Chin up. We have plenty of time to make up. Besides, normal is kinda dull."

She smiled and closed her eyes, enjoying just being under the warm water with him.

Opie looked at her, his eyes full of love, "When you get better, we should go away...have a real honeymoon."

She smiled, "God, I'd love that. We could go to Paris."

Maybe she was finally getting the hang of having money.

Opie smiled, kissing softly, "Yes, it's a beautiful city too. I'd love to take you there."

It never ceased to amaze her the things that he'd done, "You've been to Paris," she looked at him awe-struck,"Where else have you been?"

Opie blushed, "Germany, Tokyo, India, Italy, Korea..."

Corrie laughed at his bashfulness, "You buy my sister a whole house because you feel bad for hurting her, but you're embarrassed about the places you've been? How did I get so lucky?"
