AU Backdarft corrie

In front of the whole fire house of men she started sobbing. It was scary to thimk of going from three babies to five. She was terrified.

Opie held her close, "Hey,we can do this. We have so many people that love us and will help. We are financially set."

She sighed and nodded. Piney had already been a huge help. He loved staying home with the babies. Opie often remarked that he was a totally different man. Corrie kissed Opie and made her way home. When she had nearly reached the house, Piney texted her the they needed diapers. By this time it was nearly dark. She changed direction and headed toward the store. The route she took put her in a rough neighborhood, but as a.cop that didn't bother her. When a man approached her at a stop light she didn't think much of it until her wimdow shattered and a sickeningly hot pain tore through her chest. The man reached through the window and unlocked the door. He drug her body to the curb and left her there, bleeding. It wasn't long before one of the paparazzi that usually tailed her rushed to her aide calling 911.

Opie was still at the firehouse working on some paperwork. He was anxious to get home and spend time with his family.

Piney was getting worried, the girl still hadn't come home. Sighing, he called his son.

"Son, have you heard from Corrie? She went to get diapers hours ago, but she hasn't come home."

Opie shook his head, worry on his face, "No, pop...did you try her cell?"

PINEY could hear his.concern, "Went straight to voicemail, son. I'm worried about the girl."

Opie got quiet for a few beats. "I'm going to see if I can track her down. Call you soon." He hung up and made his way to the door; nervous.

As Opie came out of the fire house one of the less scrupulous paprazzi came forward. He had seen what had happened and had taken pictures instead of helping. He smile broadened as he took pictures of Opie's worried face.

"Looking for your wife? She's at Mount Sinai. A guy shot her and stole her car."

Opie looked at the guy in disbelief, "No...you are lying...you're lying!" He grabbed the guy by the shirt, slamming him hard into a wall nearby.

Quickly, the man showed Opie a pixture of Corrie lying on the ground, another paparazzi applying pressure to her chest, blood all over her hands.
"No, I'm not."

Opie let the man go, "Oh god...." He ran to his car, jumping in and speeding off to the hospital.

Tara, a young surgeon who was also sweet on their brother Jax paced outside Corrie's room calling the family from her cell.

Opie came running up to Tara, panic on his face, "Is it true?"

"Jesus, Ope, you scared me! I've been trying to get a hold of you guys for an hour! We already went in and repaired the damage to her heart. She lost quite a bit of blood, but we gave her a transfusion, "being close to Jax Tara knew about the babies, "Saving her was our priority. The babies seem fine, but we can't know for sure if they are out of the woods either. She's lucky to be alive."

Opie shook in rage, "So it's true? Who was it? Who shot her?!" Tears stung his eyes as he clenched his fists at his sides.

Tara sighed, she knew that look, "Captain Trager has him in custody and they found her car. Ope don't do anything stupid.""

Opie shook his head angrily, " Like shooting a pregnant mother? What would have I told our kids if she..." He paused, bringing a clenched fist to his lips as he tried fighting back tears.

She shrugged, "Do what you want. Your wife is in there hanging on for you. Go ahead and leave for revenge."

Opie looked at her sternly, "I get it, okay? I'm just pissed. Can I see her?"

Tara nodded, "She is still unconscious. We aren't sure if it is the anesthesia or something else. She is on oxygen, but it's only to try and avoid the lung that was damaged collapsing. If you need anything text me. I'm here all night."
She kissed his cheek.

Opie nodded, "Thank you." He kissed her cheek gently and went into her room. He felt the tears stinging his eyes as he looked at his frail wife. He sat next to her bed, holding her hand tightly, "Oh baby...I'm sorry."

Corrie heard him, but was still very sedated. She squeezed his hand.

Opie kissed her hand, "It's okay, love...just rest. I'm not going anywhere."

It was six days before Corrie woke. Her eyes fluttered slowly open in an attempt to adjust to the light. She groaned at the pain in her body.
