AU Backdarft corrie

Opie had stayed by her side the entire time; not eating, not sleeping, and consumed with guilt. He launched up from his chair and stroked her hair, "Baby?? Oh thank god you are awake!"

He looked like she felt. She frowned and tried to shift to sit up. It was like her mouth was full of cotton.

"water."

Opus nodded, reaching for the nearby thermos. He put the straw to her dry lips.

She drank so much water she thought she might float away. Her chest was a dull burn.she coughed and then asked the two most important questions.
"The babies?" And "Did they get the bastard?"

Opie held her hand, "They are being monitored, but they will be okay. Your dad got him, babe."

She took his hand and placed it on her cheek. Just as she did the thought crossed her mind that she may have never been able to do that again and she began to cry.
"I-I w-was so scared."

Opie felt tears sting his eyes, "I know baby, me too. I felt so guilty. I should have left work and gone with you. I didn't need the overtime."

"Harry Winston, don't you dare. This is not your fault. I should have known better than to drive through that place. For fuck's sake, I'm a cop."

She stroked his hair and sighed.

"Guess this is what we get for living out of town so long, huh?" she chuckled.

Opie have smiled, kissing her inner wrist, "Told ya we should have stayed in Paris."

Once she was allowed to go home, Corrie adored her time with her children. Adelaide's laugh rung through the air as Corrie made faces at her and fed her. Piney sat in front of Morrow and Alex and helped feed them. There was babyfood everywhere, even in her hair, but she smiled anyway. Her shoulder still ached and she was working part time at the precinct. Basically she was her father's bitch, but it was nice to be there just the same. It amazed her how many of the men in the office liked to pat her round belly. They all had a soft spot for Corrie's kids. She thought it was because of how she and Opie had started their relationship. Anything hopeful to come out of that was always amazing.

Opie was due home from work anytime, she missed him terribly. She hadn't told him yet. but she was seriously thinking of retiring from the force.

Opie came in from work tired , but glad to be home. He smiled as soon as he walked in the kitchen, "Hey gang."

She smiled, stood, and made her way to Opie.

"Hey," she smiled and leaned up on her toes to kiss his cheek, " I was just getting ready to give the brood a bath, want to help?"

Opie grinned, kissing her back, "You bet. How was your day?" He patted her bottom before picking up the boys in his arms.

She looked at him sharply, but playfully, "Harry!"

She grabbed Adelaide and followed Ope to the bathroom. She watched as he teste dthe water and filled it just enough.

"My day was ok. I've been thinking a lot."

Opie began giving a bathes to the twins as he listened with curiosity, "Really? About what?"

She smiled as she watched him skillfully wrangle all three babies so that she wouldn't have to find a way to lean down with her large belly.

"I've been thinking, since I got shot, is being a cop something I should be doing anymore? I love my job, but I don't want my kids to not have a mother."

Opie smiled softly at her, "You could work the office or just retire. We have plenty of money, love."

She bit her lip, "I'm still not sure what I want to do."
She rubbed her belly and blew out a breath as the twins fought for space.

Opie kissed her belly gently while still holding the babies, "I will support you no matter what."

"You have to promise me one thing," she smiled slyly, "Don't knock me up again when these babies are a couple of months old."

Opie chuckled, "I promise. Come on, better get these babies in bed."

After the babies were in bed, Corrie made her way to the small TV/sitting room adjoining their bed room. Kicking of her shoes she sat and propped up her very swollen feet. She yawned and scrubbed her face with her hands.

"Almost done, I'm almost done," she muttered to herself as she rubbed one of her calves.

Opie came in and sat on the ottoman, rubbing her feet and legs, "You're so tense...did you get any rest today?"

She shook her head, "No, Pop wasn't feeling good so I did most of it myself."

His strong hands worked out some of the tension, "mmm god that feels good."

She looked down, half avoiding Opie's stare.

"I've been having nightmares and not sleeping well," she rubbed the scar on her chest.

Opie frowned up at her, "Wanna talk about it?"
