AU Backdarft corrie

After Morrow left, Corrie looked up at opie, "I don't want you to quit."

Opie looked at her with surprise, "Wh-were you playin' possum?"

She flushed, "Yea. Not at first, though. Just please, you save so many lives. You are so good at what you do."

She kissed his lips hard, "I could never ask you to do this."

Opie kissed her gently, "I almost lost everything today...I don't want to take the chance it happens again."

"But this is part of you" tears slid down her face.

Opie sighed, "Nothing is formally planned. It's just a thought."

She sighed, "I just don't want you to give this up for me. You love your job. I'll support whatever choice you make."

She kissed his cheek and held his hand.

"Were you really that scared?"

Opie nodded, holding her close, "All I could think about is you and the kids...Pop...our family. I wasn't ready to lose you."

She held him close, "But you didn't. You;re here. I'm here. Everything is fine."

She remembered the moment at the door when she though Morrow was going to tell her he was dead.

"When Morrow came to the door, still covered in soot, I though you were gone."

Opie kissed her forehead gently, "I'm sorry baby..."

She kissed him and stood, "I have to go. I feel bad leaving Pop alone this long with all the babies."

Opie nodded, kissing her, "I'll see you all in the morning. I love you."

She spent the rest of the evening with Piney and the babies. It was uneventful. When she finally laid down she had a terrible time getting to sleep. As she slept, horrible nightmares of a dead opie haunted her.

Opie was able to come the next morning and decided to just take a cab home. He crept into their apartment and got undressed once he was in the bedroom, slipping into bed with his wife. He gently kissed her neck, cuddling her close.

When he kissed her, she woke with a sob. Seeing that he was real she threw her arms around him and kissed him.

Opie kissed her back, nuzzling her gently, "You alright?"

She shook her head and tears flew out of her eyes, "You retire and I'll retire. Then we can stay with our kids, travel, whatever you want to do," she sobbed loudly, "I can't lose you. I can't. I'd die."

Opie held her close, shushing her, "Hey, don't think like that. We are going to grow fat and old together, remember."

She calmed some, "We are retiring. End of story. We have 5 kids, Ope. We are retiring."

Opie nodded, "Are you sure you want this?"

She thought about im falling through that floor and shivered, "Yes."

She leaned in and kissed him. His scent filling her senses.

"Yes."

Opie nodded, "Then we will." He kissed her lips gently. "Come on, let's get some sleep. I love you."

A few weeks later, Corrie had finally told her dad she wasn't coming back. He was devastated. The boys threw her a party and promised to keep in touch. Opie had never gone back to work. She smiled as she sat in the back yard and watched the triplets walk around and explore while the twins laid on a blanket talking gibberish to each other. She closed her eyes and let the sun warm her.

Opie came out with some glasses of lemonade and sat down next to her. He handed her a glass, chuckling at theo kids, "They are growing so fast."

She looked at him and smiled, "Wanna have some more?"

She saw Piney spit out his lemonade.
